While most people spent Black Friday at the malls shopping, Nanuet Community Ambulance crews were hard at work.
At approximately 1:30 PM, Nanuet was alerted to a trench collapse in their response area, on Germonds Road. A worker was repairing gas lines, when the hole that was dug collapsed around him, pinning him from the chest down. A boulder was also pressed up on his chest. Nanuet's 22B1 went to work, along with Captain Dunlavey, Lieutenant McKiernan, Rockland Paramedics, Nanuet Fire Department, Rockland Technical Rescue Team, Orange & Rockland Utilities, and Life Net Stat Flight Medevac Crews. After about two hours, the man was freed and flown to Westchester Medical Center.
While on the trench rescue, Nanuet's 2nd due crew was alerted to a pedestrian hit by a car. Once on scene, the crew discovered there were two people hit - a mother and child. They were transported by Nanuet to Nyack Hospital.
Nanuet also formed a 3rd crew to respond to additional calls within the town.
Simultaneously, there was a structure fire at the Nanuet Post Office. Nanuet wishes to thank Pearl River Ambulance for covering this standby, while our crews were unable to leave their previously dispatched calls and patients.
